A spokesperson for MTV has confirmed that Britney Spears is in negotiations with MTV to appear at this year’s Video Music Awards.

According to CTV.ca, Spears is already in the latest ads for the VMA’s but is not slated to perform.

Last year, Spears’ disappointing performance at the VMA’s became media fodder after she appeared out of sorts while performing her then come-back single “Gimme More”.

Spears’ is currently working a new album.

The VMA’s air September 7th.
