Thomas Jane is returning to the small screen with a leading role in HBO’s hour-long pilot, “Hung.”
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the dark comedy follows a struggling middle-aged high school basketball coach named “Ray”, played by Jane, who discovers he can make good use of his “best asset,” as hinted at in the show’s title.
The show comes from Dmitry Lipkin and Colette Burson (“The Riches”), while the pilot will be directed by Oscar winner Alexander Payne (“Election,” “Sideways”).
It marks Jane’s first regular role in a TV series. He previously played Mickey Mantle in HBO’s 2001 TV movie “61*” and guested on the supernatural drama “Medium,” which stars his actress-wife Patricia Arquette.
His movie credits include “Boogie Nights,” “The Thin Red Line,” “The Punisher” and last year’s “The Mist.”
