Wu-Tang Clan Unites Chess Fans With ‘Wuchess’
Love hip-hop? Love chess?
Then ‘Wuchess’ might be the site for you.
RZA, a founding member of the hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, has teamed up with social network ChessPark.com to launch a website aimed at chess enthusiasts who also like hip-hop music.
For a $48 annual fee, Wuchess.com members can play against other subscribers from around the world, battle against the computer, form “chess clans” to see who can accumulate the highest ranking and even check out exhibition matches featuring celebrities, including members of the Wu-Tang Clan.
The website, which went live on Monday, will also debut exclusive hip-hop videos and MP3s.
A portion of Wuchess.com’s revenue will be donated to the scholarship fund of the Hip-Hop Chess Federation, whose mission statement is to use “chess, music and martial arts to promote unity, strategy and non-violence.”
Wu-Tang Clan formed in 1991 and released their debut album “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)” in 1993.
The album features a track, “Da Mystery of Chessboxin,” which states: “The game of chess is like a swordfight. You must think first, before you move … When it’s properly used, it’s almost invincible.”
