Elizabeth Berkley and Briana Evigan have joined the cast of “S. Darko,” the sequel to the 2001 cult hit “Donnie Darko.”

The movie is set seven years after the events of the first film and stars Daveigh Chase, who will reprise her role as Donnie’s sister Samantha.

Berkley, best known for her roles in “Saved By The Bell” and “Showgirls,” will play a religious fanatic who falls for her pastor.

Evigan, who starred in this year’s “Step Up 2 the Streets,” will play Samantha’s best friend, who flees town with her when they are plagued by strange visions.

Also appearing in the movie are Ed Westwick (”Gossip Girl”) and Canadian actor Justin Chatwin (”The Chumscrubber”).

The movie has begun production in Utah and is slated for a 2009 release.

Chris Fisher is on board as director; Richard Kelly, who wrote and directed the original film starring Jake Gyllenhaal, is not involved in the sequel.
