Emmys Add Reality Host Category
It’s time for all those reality show hosts out there to start polishing up their act, because they are now eligible to get an Emmy award for their work, ew.com reports.
The new category recognizing the hosts will be called, the “Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program” award. The award will premiere at this year’s ceremony, scheduled for Sept. 21.
“Reality TV has become such an integral part of TV and our culture, so it only made sense for us to create this new, highly-competitive category,” said Academy chair John Shaffner.
The category will only be open to hosts – and will not include judges or reactionary participants in the program.
It was only a matter of time before reality television hosts were added as a category at the Emmys, especially after best reality show was added years ago (something that the Amazing Race has won more than any other series).
