Tim Allen is making his feature directorial debut with an indie comedy called “Crazy on the Outside.”

The ‘Santa Clause’ and ‘Home Improvement’ actor will also star in the movie, which follows an ex-con as he leaves jail and finds outside life to be much zanier, especially once he meets up with his sister.

Ray Liotta, Carrie-Anne Moss, Julie Bowen and Kelsey Grammer are currently in talks to round out the rest of the cast.

Filming is scheduled to begin later this month in L.A.

It will be Allen’s first time helming a movie, though he previously directed an episode of “Home Improvement,” his hit TV series that ran from 1991 to 1999.

Allen last appeared on the big screen in the road-trip comedy “Wild Hogs.” The 54-year-old actor recently finished shooting two films, “Redbelt” and “The Six Wives of Henry Lefay,” and is currently voicing Buzz Lightyear for “Toy Story 3,” which is scheduled for a 2010 release.
