Senate Liberals plan to do all they can to block Bill C-10 from becoming law.

The Globe and Mail reports that the senators see the bill as a form of censorship on Canadian film and television shows by the current Conservative government, and that they will do all they can to prevent it.

Senate Liberal Leader, Celine Hervieux-Payette, said the senators will do all they can to “scrutinize” the bill to avoid censorship of Canadian arts.

The bill aims to make changes to Canada’s Income Tax Act. One provision is that films or television shows that are deemed to be against public policy will not receive tax credits. Conservatives deny this is the case.

Canadian filmmakers and actors have been very active in speaking out against the bill and the changes the industry would see.
