Montreal’s The Mission District has a big fan south of the border–Perez Hilton.

“I guess someone might have clued him in about the band,” says singer David Rancourt about the celebrity gossip blogger.

“He wrote us that he really liked our stuff, and then a couple days later we just saw a posting on his website. I think he just liked our sound, so it definitely helped raise our profile a bit.”

But Hilton isn’t their only fan. The pop-rock sextet already have thousands of fans all over the world thanks to exposure on sites like MySpace, and hope to garner more with the release of their first LP, Youth Games.

The Mission District will be playing songs from the record, due out March 1, during their first show at Canadian Music Week.

After that comes shows at the Annex Wreck Room in Toronto on March 8, and the South By Southwest Music Festival in Texas on March 13.
