Sometimes, sex doesn’t sell — in China.

Canadian-born actor Edison Chen apologized for his sex scandal in Hong Kong yesterday, and announced his retirement from their entertainment scene.

The scandal, which has shocked the Chinese-speaking world for weeks, began when the actor and singer sent his laptop away for repair. The computer had over a thousand photos of Chen and female Chinese celebrities engaged in sex acts.

The photos were then leaked onto the internet.

“These photos were very private … and were never intended to be shown to anyone,” he said.

“I would like to apologize to all the ladies and to all their families for any harm or hurt they have been feeling. I’m sorry.”

Chen said he would fulfill all commitments he has to date, but will step away from the Hong Kong industry “indefinitely” after.

“I have decided to do this to give myself an opportunity to heal myself and search my soul. I will dedicate my time to charity and community work within the next few months.”

Chen is best known for his supporting roles in “Infernal Affairs” and “The Grudge 2.”
