Paris Hilton is in trouble with the law again.

The heiress recently appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and let it slip that she is the proud owner of more puppies than are legally allowed in Los Angeles.

“Oh my goodness,” Hilton said to DeGeneres. “I have 17 dogs.”

According to E! Online, when DeGeneres asked the actress why she had so many, Hilton blamed her good heart and the fact that some of her dogs are not spayed or neutered.

“They keep having babies, and I feel bad to give them away ’cause I feel like if I had a baby and someone gave it away, it’d be mean,” she explained. “So, I feel bad for my dogs.”

The Los Angeles Department of Animal Services paid a visit to Hilton’s house in response to the confession since Los Angeles law states that non-pet breeders are only allowed to own more than three dogs per address.

No animals were found at the residence and Hilton’s rep has since stated that the dogs are divided among several different homes, in compliance with city law.

Since Hilton was not at home during the visit, Department officials left a “notice to comply” form with staff members. A department spokesperson told E! News that follow-up visits would be conducted.
