References Making Fun of Britney Removed from Musicals
It’s no longer fun to make fun of Britney Spears.
CBC.ca is reporting that lyrics in current hit musicals poking fun at the star have been removed due to her recent mental troubles.
Monty Python’s “Spamalot” and Queen’s “We Will Rock You” have removed references to the former pop princess from their shows.
“We Will Rock You” may see the biggest difference as there is a character named after Spears in the show.
The references have been changed to Victoria Beckham in both shows.
“The references have always been intended as good-natured fun, and even a kind of tribute to her because, as you know, we have worked with Britney. But right now, we didn’t want there to be any risk of our show adding to her pain. So we are now adding to Victoria Beckham’s legend instead,” May wrote on his website about why things were changed.
The changes apply to current showings of the hit musical all around the world – including its current run in Toronto.
