Vancouver To Host 2009 Junos
The Junos are moving west again — way west.
As Calgary gears up for the Juno Awards in April, organizers have announced Vancouver as the host city for next year’s gala.
“A city well known for its diversity, inclusiveness and cultural heritage, Vancouver is a natural fit to host Canada’s music awards show,” said Melanie Berry, president of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the organization behind the annual awards.
Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan had words of praise for the Canadian music scene. “We are blessed to have so many wonderful recording artists from Canada — and Vancouver — that are recognized and successful around the world,” he said in a statement.
“The 2009 Juno Awards will be a great platform to celebrate this success and inspire the next generation of Canadian recording artists.”
The Vancouver gala is set for March 29, 2009.
The Junos have travelled to a new host city each year since 2002, hitting St. John’s, Ottawa, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Halifax and Saskatoon.
This year’s gala in Calgary will take place on April 6, with comedian Russell Peters hosting.
