Amy Winehouse said yes, yes, yes at the 50th Grammy Awards, Sunday.
The British soul singer walked away with five trophies and a year’s worth of bragging rights.
Kanye West also took home some serious hardware including Best Rap Album. But the biggest award of the night, otherwise known as Album of the Year, would go to veteran jazz player Herbie Hancock, who pulled a huge upset with his album River: The Joni Letters.
Fortunately for Hancock, Kanye seemed to take the loss well.
Canadian favourite Feist was shut out in the three categories she was nominated, losing out to Winehouse for best female pop vocal solo performance for Rehab, best pop vocal album for Back to Black and best new artist.
Unsurprisingly, West and Winehouse delivered the most moving moments of the night with emotional acceptance speeches and highly anticipated performances. West’s live set went from a funk-filled powerful rendition of Stronger to a touching tribute to his late mother Donda.
Before winning record of the year, Winehouse performed live via satellite from Riverside Studios in London and the troubled starlet’s rendition of “Rehab,” wreaked with irony as it’s no secret that the singer is currently battling substance abuse in treatment centers. Despite being notorious for erratic stage shows and not-so-good performances, Winehouse stepped up and delivered a strong and jazzy “You Know I’m No Good.” In the midst of the tune, the singer shouted, “My Blake!,” referring to her jailed husband, Blake Fielder-Civil.
The Grammys were full of memorable moments that had music’s hottest start teaming up with living legends. Beyonce took the stage with Tina Turner, Alicia Keys defied time and sung with Frank Sinatra while Rihanna belted out “Umbrella” backed by 1980s Minneapolis funk group, the Time.
