EA Announces Free Battlefield Game Due This Summer
EA announced today at the Digital, Life, Design, Conference that it will be offering the next iteration of the Battlefield series, Battlefield Heroes, as a free download this summer.
EA plans to generate revenue based entirely on ad sales in gamer profiles and in the player hub as well as micro-transactions. Details weren’t made available as to what players will be able to purchase and whether or not it will give them a significant advantage which could ultimately unbalance the game.
Battlefield Heroes is going to be cartoon-style, similar to Team Fortress 2, and will be developed by Swedish developer DICE, creators of Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2, and published by EA. We’ll give you details as they become available.
