Radiohead Announces New Year’s Eve Online Concert
Radiohead is gearing up for the CD and vinyl release of its newest album “In Rainbows” with a New Year’s Eve web broadcast of a concert.
In a posting on the band’s website, frontman Thom Yorke described the pre-recording of “some songs and other bits” as “a wee celebration of the release of the physical manifestation of ‘In Rainbows.’”
The album debuted on the Internet in October as a digital download available for whatever price fans were willing to pay, making Radiohead the most prominent act so far to use this unique distribution method.
The online concert will be broadcast on the band’s website radiohead.tv beginning at midnight in the U.K.
Fans can also find the concert on Current TV, the Al Gore-created network that focuses on user-generated content. The concert will be broadcast on its cable and satellite channel and streamed on the Current website.
The physical version of “In Rainbows” arrives in U.K. stores on Dec. 31 and in North American stores on Jan. 1.
