Nicole and Joel Bring Smiles to Kids at Christmas
“It’s hard to believe there are so many homeless families on the streets in our own neighborhoods,” said Mom-to-be Nicole Richie, 26, E! News reported.
She and boyfriend Joel Madden have only weeks until parenthood kicks in, but the couple couldn’t wait to experience the joy of family during the holiday season. The couple hosted nearly 200 children and their parents at the Paramount Studios in Los Angeles. The families are involved with a group called the Los Angeles County’s Beyond Shelter program, which aids families who do not have stable incomes and housing.
The afternoon event was likened to an old fashioned Christmas carnival, showcasing clowns, face-painters, Santa and snacks. The newly formed Richie-Madden Foundation provided the entertainment and treats to families whose Christmas may have not been as merry this year.
According to Richie-Madden representatives, the foundation was put in place to raise awareness about schooling, healthcare and family issues for individuals or groups in need.
“We really wanted to give these kids a really wonderful and special Christmas,” Richie said. “It’s our favourite holiday.”
Although Richie and Madden made sure that a jolly red Santa was in attendance, it was the young couple who provided the 500 Cloud B Cuddle Cub teddy bears and 500 pairs of Stride-Rite shoes to the guests of the party, not the bearded man himself.
