Toby Keith’s Family Awarded $2.8 Million in Wrongful Death Suit
Two brothers who own a transport company have been ordered to pay the family of Toby Keith $2.8 million for the wrongful death of the country star’s father.
Yahoo! News reports that Elias and Pedro Rodriguez had neglected to fix the badly damaged brakes of their charter bus, even after they were warned of the problem. Keith’s father, H.K. Covel, was driving down the interstate in March 2001 when he was bumped by another vehicle and sent veering into the charter bus, which was unable to stop in time.
Of the verdict, attorney Greg Dixon stated, “The jury found no fault on the part of Mr. Covel in the wreck that claimed his life.”
Covel left behind a wife and three children.
