Evan Biddell wins ‘Project Runway Canada’
24-year-old Evan Biddell was crowned the king of the runway last night on “Project Runway Canada.”
The bad boy designer, who impressed host Iman and the judges with his off-beat designs and sense of humour, was the only contestant who had no formal training. It was no secret that his competitors were not pleased with his success. “I’m pretty sure they didn’t want me to win,” Biddell told Sun Media of the runner-ups. “I think both of them would have rather had the either one win over me. I remember Lucian telling me that I probably didn’t deserve to win. I thought it was down to one of them. I was honestly ready to go home happy, regardless.”
Biddell was actually awarded the title and $100,000 cash prize in October, after the showdown competition at L’Oreal Fashion Week in Toronto. Biddell’s winning line was inspired by Sunday morning cartoons. “It was like this sort of team of girls who were going to come out and kick your ass,” Biddell described.
The Saskatoon design phenom has now relocated to Vancouver, where he will continue using eco-friendly fabrics on a custom line and a ready to wear line.
