Chappelle’s Record Breaking Routine
A good joke is all about timing, not about time. Dave Chappelle would disagree, however, as the comedian hit the stage at Hollywood’s famous Laugh Factory to perform a record breaking 6 hour and 12 minute stand-up routine.
Exceeding his previous record by only five minutes, Chappelle was content to re-establish himself as the most long winded comedian in tinsel town, as rumours circulated about a fellow comedian wanting to squash his record.
“Dave was determined to keep his record because he recently heard that Dane Cook was planning on trying to break [his] record,” Laugh Factory owner Jamie Masada told the press.
Cook and Chappelle have had somewhat of a running competition going on for some time now. First, Cook beat comedy legend Richard Pryor’s record for longest stand-up routine at 3 hours and 50 minutes back in April.
Then, Chappelle beat Cook, nearly doubling his time only a few days later with his record six hours 7 minutes.
The competition is sure to continue, however the trouble may be finding an audience that is willing to sit through a 24 hour comedy set.
