Neil Young Still Plays an Epic Set at 61
At 61, he’s still got it.
Neil Young was warmly welcomed by adoring fans at Toronto’s historic Massey Hall theatre on Monday night. Performing some of his staple classics, as well as a handful of his new songs, Young dazzled audiences, and was evidently happy to please.
“Good to be here,” Young said to the cheering audience on Monday night, CBC.ca reported.
“I appreciate you all coming down to see me, too.”
Clad in a wrinkled white dress shirt, the folk rock legend played an hour long acoustic set, proving that time is no test to his greatness. Seated comfortably on a modest folding chair, the singer strummed his guitar and played his harmonica while loyal fans drank in the experience.
Then, a quick intermission allowed for Young to change the pace of his performance. Once fans made their way back to their seats, Young struck up an electric performance of some of his newer tunes. Joined on stage by music veterans Ben Keith, Rick Rosas, Ralph Molina and his wife Pegi, who sang back up vocals, Young played songs like “No Hidden Path” and “Dirty Old Man”.
Unfortunately for Canadian fans, the Toronto shows were the only scheduled Canadian stops on Young’s tour. He will be rounding up the journey with a five- night series in New York in mid December.
