Heath Ledger has been cast to play the Joker in the upcoming Batman film “The Dark Knight”, which is expected to start production early in the next year. Such an epic role would be sure to please Ledger as well as his fans, however there is one person who isn’t rooting him on – the original Joker himself.

In an MTV interview, Jack Nicholson admitted that he is anything but pleased so see that Ledger will be taking over one of his favourite roles. “It’s like, in any area, you can’t believe the reasons things do or don’t happen. Not asking me how to do the sequel is that kind of thing. Maybe it’s not a mistake. Maybe it was the right thing, but to be candid, I’m furious.”

After winning three Academy Awards throughout the course of his life, and with a definite Oscar runner on the way, starring himself as a cancer patient along side Morgan Freeman, why is he so torn up over a Batman flick?

“Well, the Joker comes from my childhood. That’s how I got involved with it in the first place. It’s a part I always thought I should play.”

Hopefully, everyone’s favourite menace (Nicholson, not the Joker) will move past his rage over the role and see the finished product.

“If it’s a good movie, I’ll catch up with it somewhere.”
