Nardwuar Celebrates Two Decades
The quirky interviewer known as Nardwuar the Human Serviette celebrated two decades as a radio broadcaster with a 20-hour marathon broadcast beginning Thursday night in Vancouver.
“The Live on Air Nardwuar Interview Marathon” kicked off 9 p.m. PT Thursday and continued until 5 p.m. PT Friday.
After the marathon broadcast, Nardwuar played a free, all-ages concert with his band the Evaporators at a Vancouver club, to launch their new CD “Gassy Jack and Other Tales.”
Nardwaur started working at Vancouver campus radio station CiTR in 1987, when he was 19 years old.
Over the years, the tam-wearing interviewer has become known for his encyclopedic knowledge of music and pop culture and his irreverent, gonzo interviewing style.
He has questioned everyone from Mikhail Gorbachev and NDP leader Jack Layton (with whom he played a quick game of “Hip Flip” in 2005) to Iggy Pop and Snoop Dogg.
His interviews have regularly aired on MuchMusic or been printed in Chart magazine.
