Akon is used to bringing down the house, but this time, the rapper wasn’t even present when it happened.

Just hours before Akon was set to perform a free show at Emory University in Atlanta on Thursday, the stage came crashing down, critically injuring two, and causing minor injuries to another.

At 5:15 p.m. ambulances and police were called to the scene to take those who were hurt to hospital, and help keep the student crowd in order.

There has been no word yet on whether or not the show will be rescheduled, which has caused some disappointment within the Emory student council – who organized the event.

“We increased the budget and felt like we should go for something big,” Jaclyn Freeman, the event chair, told the “Emory Wheel”, a campus publication. And something big is precisely what she got. A big mess – which has yet to be cleaned up.

“There’s still a lot of equipment out there, and because of the instability of the structure of the stage and the collapse of the awning, we did not want to start disassembling that before our inspectors as well as the inspectors from Emory had a chance to take a look at that and determine just how it needed to be brought down,” the county Fire Capt., Eric Jackson, reported to Atlanta’s WXIA-TV.
