Taking Back Sunday guitarist and singer Fred Mascherino has announced that he will be leaving the band and perusing a solo career. Although the band has been aware of his departure since early in September, Mascherino has only taken the information public this week.

Mascherino told MTV News that he has already considered parting ways with the band for a few months. He had written a number of songs that he pitched to the band, and were then turned down – it was after his band mates rejected some of his ideas that he began to think about going solo.

“I felt like during the time we were together, we made some great music together, but it was getting to the point where I felt I had taken the road as long as I possibly could,” Mascherino told MTV on Thursday.

Mascherino has taken the songs that did not make the band’s cut, and recorded them onto his own album entitled “Bend To Break” which will be released on Oct. 30.
