The VIFF Kicks Off on the West Coast
Vancouver kicked off its 26th annual International Film Festival yesterday with director Joe Wright’s film “Atonement”, based of the novel by Ian McEwan. The film was a hit, which is encouraging for other Canadian filmmakers who also based their films off of well-known literary works this year. Film adaptations of “The Stone Angel” and “Fugitive Pieces” will be shown at the festival this year as well.
75 different countries have come to showcase their talents, in hip downtown Vancouver. With over 300 films to choose from, west coast movie buffs are prepared to stand in line at the box office to get a taste of the action.
The VIFF will run through to Oct. 12 ? closing with the French film “Priceless” by director Pierre Salvadori. The film is about mistaken identities, waiters, millionaires, romance and gigolos in the beautiful French Rivera.
