It has been a rather grim week for North America’s ex-Sweetheart Britney Spears as she continued to battle it out with an ex of her own. After losing both her manager and lawyer on Monday, Spears found herself right in the middle of her ongoing custody battle with ex husband Kevin Federline, where she was asked to consent to routine drug testing as well as mandatory counselling.

Her so-called “comeback” on last week’s MTV Awards flopped among critics, audiences and fellow celebrities alike – leaving Spears distraught and miserable. But right now, all she wants are her children.

At the Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, Commissioner Scott Gordon argued that there was reason to believe that Spears partakes in “habitual, frequent and continuous use” of drugs and alcohol. The court ruled that both Spears and Federline are to refrain from using drugs or alcohol during, as well as 12 hours immediately following visitation with their sons. Spears has also been ordered to meet with a counsellor weekly, as well as a parenting coach for a minimum of eight hour sessions, twice weekly. In addition, it was ordered that neither Spears nor Federline is to take the children out of the state without written consent approved by the court, as well as both parties.

As Spears undoubtedly prepared to make some very serious changes in her life, the absurdity of the case struck a new level later on in the day. Suspicion that an unnamed party had allegedly placed a contract hit on Federline surfaced on Monday, although the LAPD did not seem to bare too much concern, as they assured MTV News that they “do not have a current investigation”

It has been a rough stretch for Spears, and although she haphazardly sang, well, lip synched the lyrics “Gimmie More” in last week’s performance – right now there isn’t a whole lot more she could possibly handle.
