Most of the top nine were told that they had finally stepped up their game, giving the best performances of their Idol careers during the ’60s theme-night of “Canadian Idol.”

Hands down the favourite performance of the night – by the judges and the audience – was Matt Rapley.

Singing “Whipping Post” by the Allman Brothers Band, Rapley brought the crowd and the judges to their feet in a standing ovation.

“Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God. Zack,” was all Sass Jordan could muster before passing on the comment torch to fellow judge Zack Werner.

“This is a whole new game. This is a whole new game, kids, and Matt Rapley is here to play,” Warner said.

The two contestants who didn’t seem to do so well was the first performer of the night – Jaydee – and the last – Martha Joy.

“I don’t think you should be singing songs like that,” Jake Gold said to Martha Joy after her performance of “Love Child” by Diana Ross.

Jaydee received criticism for not being in time with the band at the beginning of his performance of “Runaway” by Elvis Presley.

“I was hoping you would take a little (more risks),” Farley Flex told Jaydee.

The judges agreed that it is a good thing that only one competitor is being eliminated per week as nearly all nine performed so well.

The second person in the top 10 to go home will be announced tomorrow evening during the results show at 9:30. My bet is that Dwight D’eon will be heading home.
