Paris Hilton, the 26-year old socialite, checked herself into jail around 11:15 p.m. on Sunday to begin a 23-day sentence for violating probation.

Last month, she was sentenced to 45 days violating probation terms on a drunk driving plea – she was caught driving without a license – but she was told she’d only spend 23 days locked up if she was assessed good behaviour.

According to TMZ, Hilton was accompanied by her lawyer Richard Hutton, her mother Kathy Hilton and her sister Nicky as she checked in.

“I’m really scared but I’m ready to do this,” Hilton told reporters earlier Sunday night, when she made an appearance at the MTV Movie Awards.
