Translate text instantly; learn words and sentences in other languages in a snap. Sound impossible? The Global Translator by Franklin can help you do just that. It can translate 12 languages, including Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. It allows you to play games such as hangman, jumble, anagrams, TIC TAC TOE (one player or two) and a quiz game. It has a pre made sentences option that allows you to quickly translate everyday phrases, like “What time is it?” and “What is the temperature,” As well as hundreds of other common sentences. You can enter names and phone numbers, passwords, and dates and times for wherever you may be. You can choose from the settings how large you want the type, what language you want it to function in, adjust the contrast and the automatic shut off time.
Simple to use, all you have to do is turn it on with the big red power button, chose the language you want to type in (source language), and the language you want it to be translated to (target language) and then type in the words you want to translate. After typing in the word you want, the translator will search for that word and if it can, it will give you other options for the word you want. If you type in “hat” it gives you “hat” and “top hat,” you pick the word you want and it will give you the translation of that word. The games are simple and entertaining if you are bored, although some of them may be a bit confusing if you have never played them before. The buttons are pretty straightforward; the little pictures on them give away what they are for, so there is little confusion.
The translator has almost every word there is, and most of the time comes up with the word you are looking for. You can translate any text instantly, and for some of the languages it gives you the phonetics way to say the word. It allows you to store many names and numbers, and a password helps you protect what you may have stored, in case you lose it. It is small and lightweight, compact and easy to use.
There are some words you just wont be able to find. The translator cannot recognize them so it gives you other options, but maybe not what you are looking for. There are buttons for doing math, but they are hard to use, and some of the games are hard to figure out too. Without reading the manual, it is difficult to figure out what each button is for. If you translate word by word, then you will not get the proper way to say the sentence exactly, because it is excluding the verb tenses and how you are using it in the sentence.
If you’re looking for a simple way to translate basic words and sentences into different languages, without the hassle of using a dictionary, and the struggle of learning a brand new language, then the global translator is the right way to go. Its relatively sturdy, although I wouldn’t go dropping it off of any buildings, and for the most part it is simple to use.
