The Box Office: Prediction – Jan. 26

I did not have much luck at the box office edu-guessing game last week, but I think I can rebound this week.
Last week, I only had one movie to guess and it unexpectedly bombed. I’m not making excuses, but there was not much room for error and the movie was a surprise underachiever. OK, two excuses.
This weekend’s new movie lineup is the biggest of the year so far. So let’s get to it, and here are my guesses for this week’s roster:
Catch and Release: It’s a romance comedy starring Jennifer Garner and Kevin Smith (though they’re not romantically linked in the movie). Garner is not the biggest draw in the world, the film isn’t getting the most favourable reviews, but it’s being advertised to death and it’s a chick flick. I’m going to say $6 million.
Smokin’ Aces: Well, if you’re cool, you’re going to see this movie. Jeremy Piven stars and that’s all that matters. He went from being the “best friend” to the lead with his Entourage role. Let’s go $9 million on this one.
Blood and Chocolate: An obscure film it seems… $1.5 million is my guess, though it’s an out-of-left-field guess.
Epic Movie: One of these spoof films. Kids love their spoofs. $16 million.
Check back Sunday night/Monday morning to see how I did.
