MWSF: Apple Announces ‘iPhone’
Putting to rest the recent rumours, Apple today announced the iPhone, and yes Steve referred to it as the iPhone.
Wowing the audience at Macworld San Francisco, Apple shows off its brand new smart phone that is just 11.6mm thin, a 3.5inch wide screen with multi-touch support and a proximity sensor that will turn off the touch screen capabilities when the phone is near your ear. In addition, the phone features a 2 megapixel camera, 4GB and 8GB of storage, Bluetooth, WiFi and Quadband GSM/EDGE. The phone will also run OS X and includes support for widgets, full web browsing, POP and IMAP email, Google Maps and free push email from Yahoo.
The phone’s battery life is as follows:
- 5 hours talk or video
- 16 hours in music mode
The phone will be available in the US with Cingular for $499 (4GB) and $599 (8GB) and will ship in June 07. Availability outside of the US will begin in the 4th quarter.
