Actor George Clooney is revealing the horrors he witnessed on a recent trip to the troubled Sudanese region of Darfur.

Clooney told the BBC that everyone he spoke with in the region said there’d been targeted violence against many members of their family. “That’s not just a war,” he said. “That is actually ethnic cleansing.”

The star said that if peace is to be reached in Darfur, greater peacekeeping measures are needed immediately as well as a ceasefire between rebel groups.

After three years of warring has ravaged the area, at least 200,000 people are dead and 2.5 million are homeless.
