It’s been nothing but bad news and death threats since NBC’s new show Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip debuted earlier this fall. With the West Wing’s Aaron Sorkin at the helm and big names Matthew Perry, Amanda Peet, and Bradley Whitford signed on to star, there were a lot of high hopes for the drama. But viewership floundered and ratings sank.
Now, however, things are starting to look up for the show about a show (Studio 60 focuses on the behind-the-scenes dynamic of a fictional late-night sketch-comedy show a la Saturday Night Live).
Last week, Studio 60′s ratings actually went up and this week’s Christmas episode was largely considered by both fans and critics to be the best of the season so far. It’s so popular, in fact, that NBC will be re-running the episode on Monday, Dec. 11 at its usual timeslot at 10 p.m. for those who missed out the week before.
Cancellation rumours for Studio 60 have been abound since day one but this can only be a good sign for the series. Viewers will be lucky to catch the repeat, if only to see musicians from New Orleans perform again in a touching tribute to Hurricane Katrina victims.
