Yoko Ono Calls For World Healing Day
John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono has called for the anniversary of his death to be made World Healing Day.
The ‘Imagine’ singer – who was an ardent peace activist – was shot dead outside his New York home on December 8 1980 by obsessed fan Mark David Chapman and Yoko wants to commemorate the date by apologizing to sufferers of war and violence.
In a full-page advertisement in the New York Times newspaper yesterday (27.11.06), Yoko wrote: “Every year, let’s make December 8th the day to ask for forgiveness from those who suffered the insufferable.
“Know that the physical and mental abuse you have endured will have a lingering effect on our society. Know that the burden is ours.
“I don’t know if I am ready yet to forgive the one who pulled the trigger.
“But healing is what is urgently needed now in the world.
“Let’s wish strongly that one day we will be able to say that we healed ourselves, and by healing ourselves, we healed the world.”
