With the tremendous amount of new web sites and applications emerging over the past two years, new standards and technologies are being introduced at a rapid pace that help improve the online experience.

Take for example Google’s introduction of their online applications, including Google Spreadsheets and the recently launched Google Docs. Using technologies such as AJAX, these online applications, which can be accessed from virtually any computer, provide a very similar experience to their downloadable counterparts.

It’s difficult for web developers to keep up with all the progression, and web site users are continually flocking towards web sites that offer fast load times, a great user experience, and a large community of content contributors.

Early next year, Canadian web developers will have the chance to see presentations, network and learn from top industry professionals from Google to the CSS Zen Garden to Technorati at the Web Directions North conference, coming to Vancouver, British Columbia, this February 6-8. The conference will cover Accessibility, AJAX, CSS, and web app development to label just a few topics. It will be followed by an optional day of workshops.

Confirmed speakers include: Kelly Goto (Gotomobile), Andy Clarke (malarkey), Adrian Holovaty (Chicago Crime, Washington Post), Douglas Bowman (Google Visual Design Lead), Derek Featherstone (Furtherahead), Dan Cederholm (SimpleBits), Joe Clark (joeclark.org), Dave Shea (CSS Zen Garden), Cameron Moll (Authentic Boredom), Molly Holzschlag (Molly.com), Veerle Pieters (Veerle’s Blog, Duoh!), Kaitlin Sherwood (Google Maps US Census mashup) and Tantek Çelik (Technorati).
