The most random coupling of the week award goes to singer Ashlee Simpson and actor Taye Diggs.

And here I thought Ashlee was content with her emo poster boy Peen Wentz.

It seems not so much. Simpson and Diggs were spotted “cheek to cheek” at G Spa last week, reports Page Six.

The couple took tequila shots and were chatting and whispering with intertwined arms for a half hour.

A rep for Simpson says she and Diggs are “just friends.”

Oh, and Diggs has been married since 2003.
