Twenty years later and they’re still raising big bucks.
According to E! Online, Comic Relief 2006, which occurred this past Saturday, airing on TBS and HBO, raised $4 million dollars for Hurricane Katrina Relief.
The comedy fundraiser has not been done by its founders: Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg and Robin Williams, for eight years, however the trio decided that Hurricane Katrina Relief was a good reason to bring it back.
Comic Relief began in 1986 as a fundraising tool for homeless Americans, and has featured numerous comedians over the years who yuck it up on stage for the charitable cause.
