Michael Richards Under Fire, Shouts Racial Slurs During Performance
The actor most known, and often only known, for playing the role of Kramer on the most popular sitcom ever, Seinfeld, is about to get the door slammed shut by Hollywood.
Michael Richards career, as if it hadn’t been already, is surely now over after a video leaked to the internet showing him repeatedly yelling the N-word to a black audience member while doing a standup routine at a Los Angeles comedy Club on Friday.
Richards, apparently interrupted by the audience member who had been talking during his set, perhaps even heckling, began a racial tirade.
“Fifty years ago we’d have you upside down with a f***ing fork up your ass,” Richards said, as the video shows. The video was posted at TMZ.com (Warning: TMZ has censored some cursing, but the racist remarks are left in).
He referred to the man as the N-word about 20 times before the man walked out. That man or another man in the audience shouted, “that’s uncalled for” several times.
Some members of the audience laughed. They were all in disbelief. Many, including the man being yelled at, walked out. Richards left the stage after about two minutes of yelling.
Richards has not yet released a statement.
Jerry Seinfeld released a stern statement today.
“I am sick over this,” said Seinfeld. “I’m sure Michael is also sick over this horrible, horrible mistake. It is so extremely offensive. I feel terrible for all the people who have been hurt.”
Richards had trouble finding work after Seinfeld. Playing the loveable next-door neighbour Kramer, Richards took on another crazy role with his own sitcom, “The Michael Richards Show,” but it never found an audience and was cancelled soon after it debuted.
