Michael Jackson To Make Rare Appearance At World Music Awards
Michael Jackson, who has virtually disappeared since he was acquitted of headline-grabbing child molestation charges in June, 2005, is taking a step back into the limelight.
The superstar singer is being presented with a Diamond Award at the World Music Awards in London next month, and organizers announced on Sunday that the King of Pop will indeed be in attendance.
The award is given to artists who sell more than 100 million albums. The industry ceremony will be held this year on Nov. 15.
“We are thrilled to be bringing the World Music Awards to London, the music capital of the world,” said awards founder Melissa Corken. “The presence of Michael Jackson is very exciting for us.”
Following his trial, Jackson left the United States and lived in Bahrain and Ireland. He lost performed in the U.K. in 1997.
This is the first time the World Music Awards, which has previously been hosted in Monaco and the United States, will be held in London. Actress Lindsay Lohan has signed on to emcee the event from Earls Court Arena. The ceremony will also feature performances by Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, and Andrea Bocelli.
