Jason Newstead, bassist for rock group Rockstar Supernova, has suffered an injury to his shoulder and will be unable to perform for up to nine months.

A spokesperson said Newstead tore his left bicep and rotator cuff while trying to catch a bass that had fallen off an amplifier.

The group, which was formed during the taping of the reality show “Rockstar: Supernova,” also features drummer Tommy Lee, guitarist Gilby Clarke and singer Lukas Rossi.

The group plans to go through with their upcoming world tour which begins Dec. 31 in Las Vegas to support their debut album, set for release in November.

“When we started this project, I was handed a list of names — guys who could potentially anchor our rhythm section,” Lee said in a statement. “I responded by crumpling up the paper and asking, ‘Where’s Newsted?’ Jason was always the right guy for this band and we’ll miss having him with us as we kick off our album and tour, but we know he’ll be back as soon as he can pick up and play.”

The love among the Rockstar group apparently runs pretty deep. Lee was recently photographed tonguing with Rossi and has also been seen smooching fellow “Rockstar: Supernova” judge Dave Navarro.
