Madonna Adoption Saga Continues
The Madonna adoption drama just won’t end.
The Material Girl has shown her bony face on Oprah, made a splash purchasing expensive baby clothes from a Beverly Hills boutique and tirelessly defended her right to take a Malawian baby from his father in Africa.
Maybe the latest developments will finally allow the saga to end.
The Malawian father of 13-month-old David Banda now says he supports Madonna’s adoption of his child.
“I was forced to say things I didn’t mean,” Yohane Banda told CNN. “The agreement with Madonna in court was correct, but after the agreement some people from NGOs [nongovernmental organizations] and civil society organizations came to me asking me questions and forcing me to answer contrary to what I had agreed with Madonna.”
Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie have been granted an interim adoption order and have brought the boy to Britain where they live.
Numerous human rights groups are still protesting, however. They have sued the government, arguing that Malawi’s laws forbid international adoptions unless the prospective parents have lived in the country for 18 months.
The boy’s biological father insists David is better off with Madonna and Ritchie.
“Madonna, whatever is happening, maybe it’s because you are famous, that’s why all this is happening,” Banda said. “Please be strong and don’t give up the fight. My David will be a good son to you.”
