Madonna denies the claims made by the birth father of her adopted son, saying she adopted the one-year-old to give him a “better shot at life.”

The Chicago Sun Times reports that the Material Girl portrayed herself as a “heroine” while being interviewed by Oprah yesterday, and many in the audience believed her.

“She seemed very sincere. You could tell that she genuinely loves this little boy,” said Jessica Busch, 25, of Wrigleyville.

Madonna said the father of the child never questioned the pop singer’s intentions to adopt his son, until the media pressured him to do so. Audience members sympathized with Madonna, many saying that she is just trying to do the right thing.

Madonna also denied that she received adoption advice from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, but did confirm her new son has pneumonia which he contracted in Malawi, but that he is getting better.

The interview airs on Oprah’s talkshow today.
