Madonna Set to Discuss Adoption on Oprah
The controversial adoption of a Malawian boy by Madonna will be the main topic of discussion when the pop star sits down with Oprah this week.
The interview, set to be aired on the Wednesday broadcast of The Oprah Winfrey Show, will be the first time Madonna has opened up to the public about her intended adoption of 13-month-old David Banda, reports the CBC.
Banda is currently in the care of Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie after the couple was given temporary custody of the child by Malawian authorities.
The move sparked much criticism from child rights organizations, who claim that Madonna used her celebrity status to side-step Malawi’s strict adoption laws.
To add to the controversy, the boy’s father, Yohane Banda, recently said that he never intended to give his child up for adoption, but was instead under the impression that Madonna would simply raise David on his behalf, and that the boy would eventually be returned to his father.
