Mel Gibson tells ABC’s Dianne Sawyer that his anti-Semitic rants were nothing but “the stupid rambling of a drunkard, you know.”

E! Online reports that Gibson sat down with Sawyer for an interview which will air on “Good Morning America” on Thursday and Friday in two parts.

“What I need to do [is] to heal myself and to be assuring and allay the fears of others and to heal them if they had any heart wounds from something I may have said.

“So, this is the last thing I want to be is that kind of monster.”

When Sawyer asked how he felt to read the reports of the stars who said they would never work with him again, and advised others not to work with Gibson, Gibson says he was hurt by that.

“I feel sad because they’ve obviously been hurt and frightened and offended enough to feel that they have to do that. Um, and that’s their choice. There’s nothing I can do about that.”
