Bon Cop, Bad Cop Takes Down Porky’s
The cult classic, “Porky’s,” is no longer Canada’s top grossing movie.
Instead, the honours now belong to “Bon Cop Bad Cop,” which took over the number one spot after making $11.36 million in theatres, the National Post reports.
However, it should be noted that most of that was in Quebec, with English Canada bringing in less than $1.4 million in revenue to the film.
“It’s the most successful film in Canadian history that hasn’t been seen by anyone in Canada outside of Quebec,” quipped Brad Pelman, co-president of Toronto film distributor Maple Pictures.
“Bon Cop Bad Cop” was a very Canadian film, especially since it was bilingual – half the movie was in French, and half was in English. Filmmakers hoped this would give it a wide appeal to audiences across the country.
“Clearly we didn’t get our message out,” said Kevin Tierney, producer of the film.
