Natalie Portman Graces Cover of Harper’s Bazaar in Hepburn’s Dress
Natalie Portman is fast becoming this generation’s Audrey Hepburn – literally. The 25-year-old Portman, who is often compared to the iconic Hepburn, was photographed modelling the famous black column dress Heburn wore in 1961’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” for the cover of an upcoming issue of Harper’s Bazaar.
Portman paired the Givenchy-designed dress with pearls and her hair is swept up a la Holly Golightly’s signature beehive.
The dress will be auctioned off by Christie’s in London on Dec. 5 and proceeds of the sale will go to the City of Joy Aid charity for India’s poor. It is expected to go for as much as $130,000.
Portman told Harper’s Bazaar that the dress made her feel very elegant: “I mean, you can’t possibly measure up to Audrey Hepburn; there’s no comparison. But the elegance that she exuded was transmitted to the dress, you know, the feeling, the emotion of it.”
“I was so nervous that I wasn’t going to fit,” She added. “Everyone kept telling me how small it was, and I’m not the type who can starve myself. I’m small, but it’s not like I’m see-through.”
