Mom Wants Harry Potter Banned
A mother is worried that the Harry Potter books encourage Wicca and wants the books banned from the county’s school library system.
The Associated Press reports that Laura Malloy testified to the Gwinnett County Board of Education that the books are “evil” and that they try and get children interested in the Wicca religion.
However, the attorney for the board said if they were to ban all Harry Potter books, they should also ban classics such as MacBeth and Cinderella, which also have supernatural elements in their storylines.
The attorney also stressed that the Harry Potter books promote friendship and working together.
This isn’t the first time the Gwinnett County Board of Education made headlines. Earlier this year, the board decided not to spend money on Spanish books, however when they were portrayed as anti-Hispanic, the board recanted its decision.
