Anna Nicole Smith’s lawyer says he is the father of her newborn baby.

The Associated Press is reporting that Howard K. Stern, in an interview with Larry King on CNN last night, said he is the baby’s father and that the couple has named her Danni Lynn Hope in honour of Daniel Smith, Smith’s 20-year-old son.

Daniel died in Smith’s hospital room while he visited her three days after she had given birth. Stern says the cause of Daniel’s death is still unknown.

“We’re still waiting to find out what the cause is. We also now have an indication that there may have been other prescriptive medication in his system,” Stern told King.

Stern said he was the one who picked Daniel up from the airport on Sept. 9, when he appeared to be fine. The next day, however, Daniel said he wasn’t feeling too well.

“And then at one point Daniel said to me, ‘How come I’m so tired?’ And in hindsight I wish that I had seen that as some sort of a signal and seen that something wasn’t right,” he said.

The cause of Daniel’s death is still under investigation by police.
