The popular and long running animated children’s show, “VeggieTales,” is making the move from private home use to network television, which has some concerned groups fuming at the networks apparent censorship.

The Associated Press reports that members of the Parents Television Council, a conservative media-watchdog group, have issued a statement admonishing NBC for editing out several references to God in the show.

“VeggieTales” is well known as the show with talking vegetables that encouraged Christian principals of morally good behaviour. After being released as home videos for around 13 years, NBC began airing 30-minute episodes of the show on Sunday mornings.

Series creator, Phil Vischer, claims he wasn’t notified about the changes until a few short weeks before they were scheduled to be aired. Had he known, he would not have signed on for the network deal, he says.

A Spokesperson for NBC claimed that they were simply following their network’s broadcasting standards by removing the religious references.
