The Screen Actors Guild has decided to award Julie Andrews their coveted Lifetime Achievement award.

CBC.ca reports that the Hollywood union praised the “Mary Poppins” star by saying that she was someone who nurtures the “finest ideals of the acting profession.”

Andrews has received an Academy Award for her performance as the singing, flying nanny Mary Poppins, and was nominated two other times for her performances in “The Sound of Music” and “Victor/Victoria.”

“Julie Andrews is a woman of great generosity, creativity, courage, elegance and wit,” said Screen Actors Guild president Alan Rosenberg.

Andrews career in showbiz – which includes performances on stage, screen and television – has lasted for over 50 years.

This past winter, Andrews brought the play “The Boy Friend” to Toronto as the productions director. This was the same play with which she made her Broadway debut in 1953.
